Financial Services

The Maltese financial services sector has experienced rapid growth after Malta’s accession to the European Union. With a highly trained workforce, discipline, and a good attitude to business, Malta is a leading European financial services centre.

Malta has a comprehensive legal framework, favourable tax system and a sound regulatory regime that has successfully attracted a number of investment services operators, funds and fund managers, financial and credit institutions and insurance companies to its jurisdiction.

The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) is the single regulator for financial services in Malta, and regulates and supervises financial institutions, including financial institutions, EMIs and PSPs, investment licensees, trustees and insurance businesses. A separate regulatory authority; Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) was set up to monitor and regulate licensees in the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency space after Malta staked its claim as ‘Blockchain Island’ following the introduction of laws intended to recognise and regulate this emerging technology and new industry.
